Changes to Acute Services

The acute services currently being delivered by St Mary’s Hospital are in the process of being redesigned. IW Mencap has been involved in giving our views on the impact that changes would have on people with learning disabilities at a meeting with Cheryl Souter.  This document is open to comment before final decisions are made by the NHS and council.
If you would like to offer feedback or comments then a document is available for you to view here. All of your feedback will be treated anonymously, which means Cheryl will not give your names when she discusses your views. Please visit www.mylifeafulllife.com for more information.

Wills & Trusts

Gifts in Wills are fundamental to the work of Mencap both nationally and locally. We are very grateful for any amount we receive, large or small.

If you would like to gift Mencap in your Will there are various ways this can be done. A gift can comprise of a fixed sum of money, a share in an estate, a gift of a specific item or a discretionary Trust.

If you would like to find out more about how to do this please visit the link to National Mencap Gifts and Wills section www.mencap.org

Do you know about transport rights?

If you find travelling alone difficult or stressful then there are ways that you can access support to do this. National Mencap have a page on the ‘advice and support’ section of their website mencap.org.uk where you can find out about the law, as well as different ways to be supported on transport.

Living on an island means that if you want to get anywhere you will most likely need to travel by boat. Wightlink will offer to support a person with a disability and in some cases carers can travel for free. To arrange support you are expected to contact the ferry companies at least 48 hours before you plan to travel. You can find out more by looking at the FAQ section of their website.
